March 25th, 2020— Jacinda Ardern announced we would be going into a nationwide lockdown and a State of National Emergency was declared.

April 27th — New Zealand moved to “Alert level 3” — a bit more freedom.

May 4th — No new cases reported.

May 13th — New Zealand moved to “Alert level 2” and the State of National Emergency expired — practically back to normal!

June 8th — No active cases reported. New Zealand moved to “Alert level 1” — Freedom!

Today, life goes on, very much as usual. Masks are seen few and far between and there are little to no restrictions in place.

Travel between New Zealand and Australia has opened up without enforced quarantine.

Last month, a local band, Six60, held the world’s largest concert since the Covid pandemic with 50,000 fans gathering for the show!

Frontline workers and at-risk people have started receiving their vaccinations.

We currently have 24 active cases from the border in MIQ (managed isolation and quarantine).

There has been no community transmission in New Zealand since the 28th of February this year.
